I had eased off of blogging for the past week knowing I was on the countdown to departure from my therapeutic retreat. It’s so easy to let yourself get distracted by the outside world and I wanted to make sure that didn’t happen.
Then I ended up here: the local Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit.
Don’t panic. I’m fine.
I’m also coming off a lot of morphine/codeine, and it’s not as fun as I had imagined it would be. No idea how people get hooked on this stuff.
Having said that, the searing stomach pain probably took some of the fun out of it.
Long story short, the best explanation I’ve been given for the fever/pain was that I had a single gallstone come and go.
The silver lining of this episode is that I have medical evidence to prove that all my major internal organs are functioning normally, and that there aren’t any more stones to pass.
All I need now are my discharge papers and I’m back to rehab for my last few days. And thank goodness for that because this is what passes for a meal in here:
Nothing like a trip to the hospital (unrelated to alcohol) and a clean bill of health to ramp up the motivation to get healthy…and stay that way.
